Just wanted to pass along to all of you that follow the blog, that Piper passed away this afternoon, peacefully in her mother's arms. I wish there was more to say, but thank you for all your prayers and messages.

ReplyDeleteGeof, Belinda, Bella, Andi & the entire family.... I am so very sorry to hear that Piper left your hearts too soon. My heart is broken over it, and I don't even know you. I live in the Boston area as an adult with mitochondrial disease. But nothing ... *nothing* - compares, to being a parent, and watching your baby suffer with a terminal disease and not being able to save them. From reading your blog, I am sure that you did every single thing possible to make her life comfortable *and* to try to find a cure for her. You are amazing parents! You should be so proud of your accomplishments in creating happiness for her! Sadly, Mitochondrial Disease, and in particular, Leigh's disease, is insurmountable at this time. I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest sadness is with you and your whole family. Kindest regards, Erin Flatley

ReplyDeleteMy heart is breaking reading this, sending you all the love and peace I can, from one family who lost our triplet girl to another.
ReplyDeletePiper has joined my little ones in paradise. Though I have to believe that all will be made well in the eternities, my heart aches knowing you're walking the path of grief. I hope you will be given extra comfort through all of this, and that those in your life can be the support you will need in the days, weeks, months, and yes - years ahead of grieving your little Piper.
ReplyDelete(I don't know your family, but am familiar with grief and somewhat with mitochondrial disease. Our cause of deaths are unknown but believed to be mito, and our daughter's autopsy suggested Leigh's or Leigh-like. So I feel I "know" you in a way.)
Hi- I came across your blog about your beautiful daughter, Piper. My grandson was just diagnosed with Leigh's Disease six months ago and my daughter and her family are at their wits end. My grandson is 2 1/2 and is the sweetest little boy you will ever meet. If you could possibly conatact my daughter Kasey at kaseyonair@gmail.com and maybe give her some insight on this horrible disease. We feel so frustrated that there isn't much known on how to treat this disease. You can read her blog at ourlifewithwilliam.blogspot.com I know this will be difficult for you, but we would like to speak to someone who has gone through this horrible, devastating situation. Please, please consider contacting her. She cries everyday and I have no answers for her. Thank you so much for your time. Blessings- Kelly
